Placings certificates from athletics were also handed out in assembly this morning...
We were blessed with a beautiful sunny day for Athletics day out at Rakaia. Thanks to all the parents who joined us, I hope you enjoyed your day too!

Today we had Julie from ECO Educate come and talk to Room 1 and 2 about recycling. We learnt about the different things that should be put into recycling and landfill at home and school. We also have new rubbish bins through the whole school and are making sure we are doing the right thing with our rubbish.
Here are a few photos from the room 1 and 2 poetry this afternoon (as it was very fast paced it was tricky to take photos of all children, listen and give feedback). Well done to all of the children who got up and gave it a go even if it was a bit scary!
Congratulations to our Year 1 cross country winners.
Lochie - 1st place boys
Silver - 2nd place boys
Hannah - 1st place girls
Rooms 1 and 2 have been practicing their poems at home as well as at school.
Tomorrow is the day we are sharing them in front of both classes and any parents available to come watch. We would love to have you there if you are free, 2pm Wednesday.
Today Mrs Coe's cat Indi came in to visit room 1 and 2. We got to meet her, pet her and ask questions in groups of four as she was a bit scared being away from her home. The rest of us created our own cats for cut and paste.
Reminder: this week on Wednesday we are heading to the Stanway's farm to visit their many animals. If your child has gumboots please send them to school with them on Wednesday as this will be more appropriate footwear.
Here are some extra pictures from out visit to Princes Court on Monday.
Our next visit will be Monday 2nd July. Let Mrs Coe know if you'd like to join us and come watch :)
Wow! The term is going by so quickly!!
Over the last week we have had two new additions to Room 1.
Stephan and Emily Rose have both begun their learning journey at ACS and we also celebrated Stephan's 6th Birthday on Friday!
We have another child starting next week and other school visitor who will start at the beginning of Term 3. Keep your eyes peeled and welcome these new children and families to our school community!
On Monday, Rooms 1 and 2 went to Princes Court Rest Home to sing to the residents. The children had learnt and practiced 2 songs to preform. We then also had some time asking questions and talking to the residents. We then joined together and sung some classic tunes and nursery rhymes together which was enjoyed by all.
(as I was busy leading the singing and sorting the music there are a lack of photos - however hopefully I can get some off Miss Edzes and the parents that came to showcase a bit more of our visit!)
We have had 2 very busy and exciting days to start off our week!
After cross country at Dorie was postponed last week we decided to hold our very own cross country at ACS.
Here are some of the photos from our brave and persevering runners (some were even too fast to be in photos!)
Today we enjoyed wheels day with a variety of wheels based challenges and activities. As well as sitting in a variety of cars, talking to the owners and enjoying time riding our bikes and scooters.
Last Friday we read a story called Zoo Train and then based our art activity around it. We drew 4 different zoo animals by talking about the shapes that made up their bodies. Coloured in a train and drew around 2D shapes to make the carriages. We then used lines and dots to decorate them and remembered to add in wheels. Today these were on display for wheels day!
Also a special warm WELCOME to Stephan who had his first day with us in Room 1 today! What an exciting day for it!
Happy Birthday Rhode! We hope you had a great day. Thank you for celebrating with us and sharing your amazing butterfly cake!
I hope you had a lovely day today with your family! Here are a few of the things your children love, appreciate and admire about you!
Mufti Day TOMORROW (Thursday 10th May)
We are holding a mufti (free dress) day tomorrow to support Ronald McDonald House South Island. A Gold Coin Donation for each child will be collected on the day and donated to Ronald McDonald House.
This afternoon we went on a bus to the Ayers' Farm. We visited their horses Tussock, Peaches and Bella. We got to pat, feed and brush the horses. We had lots of conversations about the horses, the things we saw, what they felt like and what they needed to be looked after properly. Tomorrow we will write about our first farm experience for the term. Below are some of the many photos we took.
He talked about what ANZAC Day was all about, and we learnt that ANZAC stood for Australia New Zealand Army Corp.
We also learnt about why people wear poppies on ANZAC Day and who it is remembering.
Then we got to make our very own poppies.
Then all of our poppies were stuck onto a wreath which will be hung up on display in the museum!
On April 25th the wreaths will be taken down to the Cenotaph for the ANZAC Day services.
Over the last couple of days we have also read a few picture books about ANZACs to begin learning what it was all about.
We begun the day with a welcome, for the Y10 leaders from Hillview, on the courts.
Then throughout the day we had a rotation of four different activities:
Learning a little bit about Rome and then making buildings/structures out of marshmellows and sticks.
